Friday, November 1, 2013
Today is Friday, November 1, 2013. I've watched hours of testimony from people for or against SB1 (same sex marriage). LGBT advocates have stated that they are only seeking their due civil rights. I disagree with the civil rights argument because there is no evidence that people are born gay. While the LGBT community are still due respect and love, we cannot condone the lifestyle as it is diametrically opposed to the Bible's teachings.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie,and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts.Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
So why are those who are opposed to gay marriage/same-sex marriage labeled as hateful, or bigots, no matter how respectfully the opposition is presented? Why are the gay rights community so aggressively pushing for gay marriage/same-sex marriage when most people, religious or not, are generally supportive of gay couples having all the same legal rights as married couples with some form of civil union?
Because everyone knows that homosexuality is immoral and unnatural, and the only way to suppress this knowledge is by normalizing homosexuality and aggressively attacking any opposition to it. The best way to normalize homosexuality is by placing gay marriage/same-sex marriage on an equal status with traditional opposite-gender marriage.
While the church itself is made up of sinners and all are in need of Jesus for redemption, the difference is an ongoing relationship with Jesus, which includes confession of sins and repentance, not living an ongoing lifestyle in contrast to the teachings of the Bible.
The counter argument is that the church is hypocritical, that Christians are drunk, or having pre-martial sex, swearing, etc. While some/many Christians may do these things, these behaviors are also not condoned by the church and would also be opposed if someone tried to advocate for having these behaviors normalized as a routine part of our lives, or taught as normal in our schools.
I pray for our lawmakers to not pass SB1 or to let the people decide.
